PM Modi Criticises TMC Rule Over Tribal Development In West Bengal Districts
PM Modi criticises TMC over tribal development in West Bengal.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday launched a sharp attack on the Trinamool Congress (TMC), alleging that tribal-dominated districts in West Bengal have regressed during the party’s 15-year rule in the state. He made the remarks while addressing a political rally in Purulia district, a region with a significant tribal population.
Speaking at the second rally of the day, Modi claimed that basic infrastructure such as schools, roads, and drinking water facilities in tribal areas had deteriorated under the current state government. He also alleged that illegal mining activities had worsened living conditions in these regions, citing areas such as Ayodhya Hills and Sitakund in Purulia. According to him, despite the presence of natural resources, local communities continue to face hardships, including water scarcity and agricultural distress.
The Prime Minister contrasted the state government’s performance with the central government’s focus on tribal welfare, highlighting that the Union government has a dedicated ministry for tribal development. He also pointed out that India elected its first tribal President under the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP)-led government and noted that states such as Odisha and Assam also saw their first tribal Chief Ministers during BJP rule, presenting these as examples of empowerment initiatives.

Modi further alleged that the TMC government has obstructed the implementation of several central development projects in West Bengal, including railway infrastructure schemes. He argued that smoother coordination with the Centre would accelerate development in tribal and rural regions of the state.
Addressing the large gathering, the Prime Minister expressed confidence about the BJP’s prospects in the upcoming state assembly elections, stating that the enthusiasm of the crowd indicated strong public support for the party. He urged voters to support BJP candidates, including ensuring representation from Purulia in the state legislature.
He also criticised what he described as a “culture of corruption and intimidation” in the state over the past decade and a half, claiming it had affected everyday life for families across West Bengal. Modi said political change was necessary to ensure faster development and better governance.
The rally is part of the BJP’s broader outreach campaign in West Bengal, where the party is seeking to expand its influence ahead of the next assembly elections, setting the stage for a closely watched political contest in the state.
