PM Modi Addresses Large Rally In Purulia, Praises High Public Participation

PM Modi praises large turnout at Purulia rally in Bengal.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday praised the large turnout at his rally in Purulia district, where supporters gathered in significant numbers despite intense summer heat, as campaigning intensified ahead of the upcoming West Bengal Assembly elections scheduled for April 23 and April 29.

Sharing visuals of the gathering on social media platform X, the Prime Minister described the scene as “scorching Sunday afternoon in Purulia but the enthusiasm is record high,” noting that the images were captured near the helipad where he arrived earlier in the day. He also mentioned that the event included an impromptu roadshow before the main rally, which saw a packed audience.

The rally drew attendees from across the region, many of whom waited for hours under harsh weather conditions to catch a glimpse of the Prime Minister. Among them were supporters who presented hand-painted portraits as a gesture of admiration. One attendee said he had spent several days preparing a painting depicting PM Modi alongside his late mother, Heeraben Modi, expressing gratitude and respect.

Several supporters at the rally voiced optimism about the Bharatiya Janata Party’s prospects in the upcoming elections. Some described the turnout as a reflection of growing public support for the party in the region, while others said they believed the BJP would form the next government in West Bengal. A number of attendees also used the occasion to express dissatisfaction with the state government, raising concerns about development, employment, and governance.

Some participants criticised the current administration led by Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee and the Trinamool Congress, alleging issues related to corruption and lack of job opportunities for young people. Others raised concerns about women’s safety in the state, despite West Bengal being led by a female chief minister.

The rally is part of PM Modi’s wider campaign in West Bengal, where the BJP is seeking to strengthen its position against the ruling Trinamool Congress ahead of a closely contested election season. The strong turnout in Purulia comes as political parties ramp up their outreach efforts across the state in the final days before polling.
