PM Modi Accuses Congress of Spreading LPG Panic Amid Global Energy Crisis
PM Modi blamed Congress for spreading LPG panic amid a worsening global energy crisis.
PM Narendra Modi on Thursday accused sections of the opposition, particularly the Indian National Congress, of attempting to create panic by spreading rumours about an alleged shortage of liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) in the country. Speaking at the NXT Summit 2026 held at Bharat Mandapam, Modi said India was taking multiple steps to ensure uninterrupted energy supplies despite growing global uncertainties.
The prime minister acknowledged that the ongoing conflict in West Asia has triggered a global energy crisis, affecting fuel supply chains and pushing up energy costs worldwide. He urged political leaders and stakeholders to act responsibly during the challenging period and avoid spreading misinformation that could cause unnecessary panic among citizens.
Modi said global events have repeatedly demonstrated how quickly international situations can change and disrupt economies. Referring to recent global crises, he cited the COVID-19 pandemic and the Russia–Ukraine War as examples that significantly affected global supply chains and energy markets before the current tensions in West Asia further complicated the situation.

According to the prime minister, the present conflict near India’s region has placed additional pressure on global energy supplies and triggered volatility in fuel markets. However, he stressed that the Indian government has been proactively engaging with international partners and energy suppliers to manage the situation and safeguard the country’s energy needs.
Modi said he had spoken with several world leaders to address supply chain disruptions and explore ways to maintain stable fuel supplies to India. These diplomatic efforts, he added, are aimed at ensuring that disruptions in global energy flows do not significantly impact domestic distribution of essential fuels such as LPG.
Reassuring citizens, the prime minister said the government remains committed to ensuring that cooking gas and other essential energy supplies remain available across the country. He urged people not to believe rumours circulating about shortages, emphasizing that authorities are closely monitoring the situation and taking necessary steps to maintain stable distribution networks.
