PM Modi Accuses AAP of Drowning Delhi in Liquor During Rajya Sabha Speech
PM Modi blasts AAP for liquor issues in Rajya Sabha address.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi took a sharp swipe at the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) in Rajya Sabha on Thursday, accusing the Delhi government of being “drowned in liquor.” Speaking while replying to the Motion of Thanks to the President’s address, PM Modi directed criticism across the political spectrum, targeting Congress, Trinamool Congress (TMC), and AAP.
While Congress bore the brunt of most barbs, with Modi claiming the party has “no ideas, no vision, no plan,” he also accused Mamata Banerjee’s TMC of protecting infiltrators who are taking jobs and lands from tribal communities. AAP was singled out for alleged mismanagement in Delhi, with the Prime Minister’s “drowned in liquor” remark underlining his critique of the state’s handling of law and order and governance.
Modi also criticized opposition parties for spreading misinformation about public sector undertakings, comparing them to “urban Naxals” attempting to incite unrest outside factory gates. He highlighted decades of corruption under Congress, referencing past scandals such as Bofors, and accused Congress prime ministers of lacking long-term vision or determination to drive national progress, noting that the nation has suffered the consequences of such governance.

The Prime Minister’s address in the Upper House comes shortly after a dramatic disruption in the Lok Sabha, where vociferous opposition protests led to the cancellation of his speech. Women members of the Opposition reportedly blockaded the treasury bench seats, including that of the Prime Minister, which the BJP described as an attempted attack on Modi.
In Rajya Sabha, Modi’s tone remained pointed yet structured, emphasizing the need for transparency, accountability, and decisive governance. He urged the Opposition to focus on constructive dialogue rather than spreading misinformation or indulging in political theatrics.
The remarks underscore the BJP’s broader strategy of holding state governments accountable, especially in regions where the party is in opposition, while consolidating its narrative ahead of upcoming national and state-level elections. Political analysts note that the Prime Minister’s sharp references to liquor in Delhi, corruption in Congress, and alleged TMC lapses reflect a multipronged approach to critiquing rival parties in Parliament.
