Plan Your Banking Now: Two Bank Closures Are Confirmed in the Last Week of February
Banks will remain closed on February 23 in Jharkhand and February 28 across India this week.
Bank customers across India should take note of two upcoming branch closures in the final week of February, as per the official holiday calendar issued by the Reserve Bank of India. While most banking services will remain digitally accessible, physical branches will observe scheduled holidays on specific dates.
According to the calendar, banks in Jharkhand will remain closed on February 23 due to the Municipal (General) Election 2026. This closure is limited to the state and will not affect banking operations in the rest of the country. Customers in Jharkhand are advised to plan branch visits accordingly to avoid inconvenience.
A nationwide closure is scheduled for February 28, which falls on the fourth Saturday of the month. Under the standard banking schedule followed across India, banks remain shut on the second and fourth Saturdays, in addition to all Sundays. As a result, physical banking services will not be available across the country on that day.

Despite branch closures, customers will continue to have uninterrupted access to essential financial services. ATMs, UPI-based payments, mobile banking apps, and internet banking platforms will function normally, allowing users to carry out routine transactions such as fund transfers, bill payments, and cash withdrawals.
India’s banking holiday framework operates under provisions of the Negotiable Instruments Act, 1881, with the central bank publishing an annual holiday list. The schedule includes nationwide holidays as well as state-specific observances, which means closures can vary depending on regional festivals, elections, or local events.
Looking ahead, the holiday calendar indicates a busier month in March, with around 11 bank holidays expected across different states due to major festivals such as Holi, Ramzan, Ram Navami, and Mahavir Jayanti. Customers are encouraged to check their local branch schedules in advance and rely on digital banking channels whenever possible to avoid last-minute disruptions.
