Patience Will Pay, Says DK Shivakumar Amid Karnataka Leadership Speculation

DK Shivakumar assures patience amid Karnataka leadership change speculation.

Amid ongoing speculation about a possible leadership change in the Congress-led Karnataka government, Deputy Chief Minister D K Shivakumar on Thursday said, “patience will also pay.” He denied any power tussle with Chief Minister Siddaramaiah and emphasized that the party’s central leadership will decide matters in the state’s and party’s best interest.

Shivakumar’s remarks came as the Siddaramaiah government prepares to mark 1,000 days in office on Friday. When asked about reports of legislators planning a foreign tour from February 16 to March 3, allegedly to delay power-sharing, he said he was unaware and had only read about it in newspapers.

After meeting senior Congress leaders Rahul Gandhi, Priyanka Gandhi, and AICC president Mallikarjun Kharge in Delhi, Shivakumar said the topic of a leadership change was not discussed. He reiterated that decisions regarding state leadership would be taken by the party at the appropriate time.

Commenting on his Delhi visit, Shivakumar said political discussions occurred but declined to share details with the media. He avoided answering questions about whether a leadership change might occur by the government completing 2,000 days in office, maintaining a cautious stance.

He also clarified that there was no internal conflict with Chief Minister Siddaramaiah, adding, “It is within the BJP,” suggesting that any speculation about internal power struggles was misplaced. Shivakumar underscored unity within the Congress in Karnataka.

Ahead of the 1,000-day milestone, Shivakumar announced a new “Bhoomi Guarantee” initiative, promising to provide official land records (‘khata’) to homeowners. He described it as part of the government’s ongoing commitment to citizens, highlighting developmental work alongside political assurances.
