Parliamentary Standing Committee to Review NEET, NTA and CBSE On-Screen Marking on June 1-2
A parliamentary panel meets today to review NEET, NTA, and CBSE examination-related concerns.
A Parliamentary Standing Committee will begin a two-day review of key issues related to national examinations and education reforms in New Delhi on June 1, focusing on concerns surrounding the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET), the National Testing Agency (NTA), and the Central Board of Secondary Education's (CBSE) examination systems. The meetings come amid growing scrutiny of examination processes and calls for greater transparency and accountability in the country's education sector.
The Parliamentary Standing Committee on Education, Women, Children, Youth and Sports is scheduled to hold discussions beginning at 11 a.m. on Monday. The panel will examine matters related to NEET and the functioning of the NTA, including the ongoing debate over whether large-scale entrance examinations should continue in the traditional pen-and-paper format or transition entirely to Computer-Based Tests (CBTs). Members are also expected to review suggestions and concerns raised by students, parents, and other stakeholders regarding the examination process.
Senior officials from multiple government bodies will participate in the discussions. Those expected to attend include the Secretary of the Department of Higher Education, the Secretary of the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, the Director General of the NTA, and Dr. (Major) Gulshan Garg representing the United Doctors Front. The committee is expected to seek detailed explanations on examination management, security measures, and reforms aimed at improving credibility and efficiency.

On June 2, the committee will shift its focus to school education matters, particularly the implementation of the On-Screen Marking (OSM) system in CBSE Class 12 examinations. The panel will review challenges reportedly faced by students and educators under the digital evaluation process. It will also assess the status of implementation of the Three-Language Formula in Classes 9 and 10 across educational institutions.
The review assumes significance as several examination-related controversies have emerged in recent months. Questions have been raised regarding the conduct of NEET UG 2026, the effectiveness of CBSE's OSM platform, and issues linked to the Common University Entrance Test (CUET UG). Lawmakers have increasingly stressed the need to strengthen examination systems and address procedural shortcomings to maintain public confidence.
According to reports, members of the parliamentary panel had earlier highlighted the importance of preserving the integrity of NEET while reviewing the ongoing investigation into examination-related irregularities. The committee's latest deliberations are expected to contribute to policy recommendations aimed at improving examination governance, enhancing student welfare, and ensuring a more transparent and reliable assessment framework across India's education system.
