Opposition Unites! Omar Abdullah joins Mehbooba Mufti's Iftaar Gathering

J&K Chief Minister Omar Abdullah Joins Mehbooba Mufti’s Iftaar Gathering in Jammu

Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah, accompanied by his father and National Conference (NC) patron Farooq Abdullah, attended an Iftaar party hosted by People’s Democratic Party (PDP) President Mehbooba Mufti on Sunday evening in Jammu. The gathering, held amidst the holy month of Ramzan, brought together a notable assembly of political leaders and prominent citizens, reflecting a moment of unity in the region’s often fractious political landscape.

The event saw the participation of several key figures, including Jammu & Kashmir Pradesh Congress Committee (JKPCC) chief Tariq Hameed Karra and senior Congress leader Ghulam Ahmad Mir, among others. According to sources close to the gathering, the Iftaar was intended as a social occasion, devoid of political undertones. “It was a gesture of goodwill, not a platform for political discussions,” an insider remarked, emphasizing the spirit of camaraderie that marked the evening.

Mehbooba Mufti extended personal invitations to both Omar and Farooq Abdullah, which were warmly accepted, signaling a rare instance of cordiality between the NC and PDP—two parties with a history of rivalry in Jammu and Kashmir politics. The presence of these leaders at the same table sparked interest among observers, given their differing ideological stances and past electoral battles.

The Iftaar, held on March 23, underscored the cultural significance of Ramzan while offering a brief respite from the region’s typically charged political atmosphere. As leaders broke bread together, the event highlighted a shared commitment to fostering human connections beyond partisan lines, at least for the moment.
