Nitish Kumar Unveils Bihar Youth Commission to Boost Jobs, Empower Youth
Nitish Kumar Launches Bihar Youth Commission for Jobs, Skills
In a strategic move ahead of the Bihar Assembly elections, Chief Minister Nitish Kumar announced the formation of the Bihar Youth Commission on Tuesday, aimed at tackling unemployment and empowering the state’s youth. The decision, greenlit during a cabinet meeting chaired by Kumar, responds to opposition criticism over job scarcity in Bihar.
The commission, comprising a chairperson, two vice-chairpersons, and seven members—all under 45 years—will advise the government on youth welfare, education, and employment. “This visionary initiative will make Bihar’s youth self-reliant, skilled, and job-ready, securing their future,” Kumar posted on X, emphasizing its role in coordinating with departments to enhance opportunities. The body will also prioritize local youth in private sector jobs, safeguard those working outside Bihar, and develop programs to combat social issues like addiction.
The cabinet approved 43 proposals, including a 35% job quota for women, restricted to permanent Bihar residents, and financial aid for disabled students preparing for civil services exams—Rs 50,000 for mains and Rs 1 lakh for interviews, said Additional Chief Secretary S Siddhartha.
Opposition leader Tejashwi Yadav slammed the move as a “copycat” tactic, claiming the Nitish-led NDA is mimicking his party’s welfare agenda. “Bihar’s youth want to oust this tired, unreliable government,” he posted on X, escalating the pre-election rhetoric.
With the Indian Youth Congress planning a job fair in Patna on July 19, the commission’s launch signals a heated race to win over Bihar’s young voters.
