Nitish Kumar Meets Amit Shah Ahead of Bihar Assembly Elections
Bihar CM meets Union Home Minister ahead of polls.
Chief Minister and JD(U) president Nitish Kumar held a closed-door meeting with Union Home Minister Amit Shah at a Patna hotel on Thursday. The rendezvous, occurring just months before the crucial Bihar assembly elections, has sparked intense speculation about alliance strategies and electoral blueprints within the National Democratic Alliance (NDA).
A senior JD(U) leader described the interaction as a "courtesy meeting," offering no further insights into the discussions. However, with JD(U) as a key NDA partner, the timing suggests deeper conversations on seat-sharing, campaign tactics, and countering opposition challenges. Nitish Kumar, known for his strategic alliances, has been pivotal in bolstering the NDA's hold in Bihar, and this meeting could reinforce their united front against the rising Mahagathbandhan.
Shah arrived in Patna late Wednesday and is on a two-day visit to energize BJP cadres. On Thursday, he is slated to address gatherings in Rohtas and Begusarai districts, focusing on the Magadh-Shahabad region. State BJP president Dilip Jaiswal confirmed that Shah would engage with leaders and workers from 10 districts at Dehri-on-Sone, an industrial hub 50 km from Patna, to fine-tune election preparations.

The Bihar assembly polls, expected by late 2025, are shaping up to be a fiercely contested battleground. The NDA, comprising BJP and JD(U), aims to retain power amid economic promises, infrastructure development, and welfare schemes. Opponents, including the RJD-led alliance, are gearing up with attacks on governance and unemployment. Analysts view Shah's visit and the Nitish meeting as NDA's proactive steps to consolidate grassroots support and iron out any internal differences.
This development underscores the high stakes in Bihar, a state with 243 assembly seats that often influences national politics. As whispers of potential seat adjustments circulate, both leaders' agendas could prove decisive in the NDA's quest for another term.
