Nishant Kumar Honors Socialist Leader Lohia, Lauds Nitish Kumar’s Governance

Nishant Kumar honors Lohia’s legacy, praises Nitish Kumar’s governance, and celebrates Bihar Diwas.

Nishant Kumar, son of Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar, paid tribute to socialist leader Ram Manohar Lohia on Monday by garlanding his oil portrait at the Janata Dal United (JD(U)) office in Patna. The visit, which lasted nearly an hour, included discussions with party leaders and workers on organisational matters and governance initiatives.

Speaking to reporters, Nishant Kumar highlighted the profound influence Lohia had on his father’s political philosophy. He noted that Nitish Kumar considered Lohia a mentor and drew inspiration from his speeches at Gandhi Maidan, Patna. Nishant emphasized that Lohia’s principles—gender equality, elimination of caste and social discrimination, economic justice, truth, and non-violence—have guided his father’s approach to governance.

Nishant Kumar praised his father’s reforms since taking office in 2005, contrasting them with the pre-2005 period, which he described as marked by frequent riots and unrest. “My father restored law and order and brought stability to the state,” he said, highlighting initiatives such as 50% reservation for women and policies promoting inclusive development across all sections of society.

On the occasion, Nishant Kumar also extended greetings for Bihar Diwas, celebrating the state’s rich culture, history, and progress. “Today, we celebrate Bihar Diwas with great pride. Bihar is known for its glorious history, rich culture, and steady progress, and this day reminds us to cherish and uphold our heritage,” he said.

The visit drew attention in political circles as a rare public engagement by Nishant Kumar, signaling his active participation in party and public affairs. Observers noted that his remarks reinforced the JD(U)’s focus on social justice, governance achievements, and continuity of Lohia-inspired principles under Nitish Kumar’s leadership.

Nishant Kumar’s address underscored both a tribute to a historic socialist leader and a public endorsement of his father’s governance record, reinforcing the narrative of political stability and social progress in Bihar over the past two decades.
