NDA Demands ED Probe Into Lalu Family’s New Patna Mansion

Lalu family's lavish new mansion triggers corruption probe calls.

The National Democratic Alliance in Bihar has launched a blistering attack on RJD supremo Lalu Prasad Yadav and his family, demanding an immediate Enforcement Directorate investigation into the source of funds behind their sprawling new mansion in Patna’s Mahuabagh locality, even as Rabri Devi faces eviction from her official residence after nearly two decades.

The controversy erupted after Rabri Devi, former Chief Minister and current Leader of Opposition in the Bihar Legislative Council, was served notice to vacate the sprawling bungalow at 10 Circular Road, allotted to her in 2006. The NDA government has reassigned her to a new official residence at 39 Hardinge Road, prompting the Yadav family to accelerate shifting to their under-construction private palace in Danapur.

BJP state spokesperson Neeraj Kumar accused the Yadavs of constructing the luxurious mansion on “land acquired through the infamous land-for-jobs scam,” alleging that prime plots were seized in exchange for railway jobs during Lalu’s tenure as Union Railway Minister. He claimed the family’s much-vaunted “social justice” has been reduced to dynasty enrichment built on public loot.

JD(U) chief spokesperson and MLC Neeraj Kumar went further, mocking the new residence as “grander than Patna’s historic Golghar,” and asserted that no honest public servant could amass such disproportionate wealth. The ruling alliance has formally demanded that the ED and CBI reopen scrutiny of the Yadav family’s assets, pointing to the new mansion as fresh evidence of corruption.

The RJD has dismissed the charges as vendetta politics, with state president Mangani Lal Mandal accusing the Nitish Kumar government of deliberately humiliating the Lalu family. Senior leader Abdul Bari Siddiqui confirmed that Rabri Devi will shift to the new Danapur bungalow if forced to leave Circular Road, while vowing fierce resistance against any eviction attempt from the residence they have occupied for 19 years.
