NCP Meeting Ends Without Seat-Sharing Formula, Announcement Expected Saturday Afternoon
The Mahayuti alliance struggles over the seat formula as the NCP promises a Saturday announcement.
The ruling Mahayuti alliance in Maharashtra is yet to finalize its seat-sharing formula for the upcoming Legislative Council elections, even as internal discussions among coalition partners continue and political negotiations remain ongoing.
The uncertainty comes at a time when the opposition Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) has already reportedly concluded seat-sharing arrangements for 15 out of 17 seats, putting additional pressure on the ruling alliance to reach a consensus. Within Mahayuti, discussions are still underway between the Bharatiya Janata Party (Devendra Fadnavis)-led leadership, the Shiv Sena faction led by Eknath Shinde, and the Nationalist Congress Party (Ajit Pawar faction).
According to party insiders, the BJP has maintained that seat allocation should be determined based on the numerical strength of each alliance partner in the state Assembly. This position is expected to be a key factor in negotiations, as all three partners seek a distribution formula that reflects their political standing and influence within the coalition government.

The Nationalist Congress Party held a high-level meeting that lasted nearly three hours to review the political situation and assess possible outcomes for the Council polls. Party leaders said that a final agreement is expected by Saturday afternoon after further consultations with senior leadership from both the BJP and the Shiv Sena factions.
The meeting was attended by senior NCP leaders, including working president Praful Patel, state president Sunil Tatkare, and other key figures, amid speculation of internal differences over seat allocation expectations. Despite such reports, party representatives maintained that discussions were focused and constructive.
With the Legislative Council elections approaching, all eyes are now on the Mahayuti alliance to resolve internal differences and present a unified seat-sharing formula. Political observers say the outcome of these negotiations will be crucial in testing cohesion within the ruling coalition ahead of future electoral challenges.
