National Unity Day: PM Modi Accuses Nehru of Dividing India, Praises Patel

PM Modi exposes Congress blunder on unity.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi unleashed a historical bombshell on Friday, revealing that Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel yearned to fully annex Kashmir into India—but Jawaharlal Nehru single-handedly halted the Iron Man’s master plan. Speaking at the Rashtriya Ekta Diwas event near Gujarat’s towering Statue of Unity, Modi accused Nehru of fracturing national integrity by granting Kashmir a separate Constitution, flag, and autonomy. “The nation bled for decades due to this Congress catastrophe,” he thundered, igniting fresh debate on India’s post-Independence missteps.

Modi lauded Patel as the architect of a united India, who miraculously merged over 550 princely states into one sovereign nation—an “impossible feat” achieved through sheer grit and vision. “Sardar saab dreamed of ‘One India, Excellent India,’ not a divided map,” Modi declared, contrasting Patel’s iron resolve with Nehru’s alleged appeasement. The PM warned that Nehru’s interference sowed seeds of separatism, terrorism, and endless conflict in the valley, costing countless lives and resources.

The explosive remarks came during National Unity Day celebrations in Ekta Nagar, where Modi paid glowing tributes at the 182-metre Statue of Unity—the world’s tallest monument honoring Patel. He administered the Ekta Pledge to thousands and witnessed a grand unity parade, reinforcing the day’s theme since its inception in 2014. Modi urged citizens to honor Patel by building history, not rewriting it, while subtly jabbing at opposition narratives that downplay the Sardar’s contributions.

This isn’t the first time Modi has spotlighted Patel over Nehru, but Friday’s direct attack escalates the political war ahead of elections. Historians remain divided: some back Patel’s aggressive unification strategy, others defend Nehru’s diplomatic ceasefire with Pakistan. Yet Modi’s words have reignited calls to revisit Kashmir’s integration saga, questioning if India could have avoided Article 370’s long shadow altogether.

As the nation marks Patel’s 150th birth anniversary year, Modi positioned the BJP as the true inheritor of the Iron Man’s legacy—promising unbreakable unity, zero tolerance for division, and a future where India’s map remains eternally whole.
