Natanz Plant Entrances Damaged in US-Israel Strikes, Says IAEA

The IAEA confirms strike damage at Natanz entrances and says no radiological consequences are expected.

The entrance buildings of Iran’s underground uranium enrichment facility at the Natanz Nuclear Facility have been struck in recent US-Israeli military attacks, the UN nuclear watchdog confirmed on Tuesday. The International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) said satellite imagery showed damage to structures linked to the underground Fuel Enrichment Plant (FEP), one of Iran’s key operational enrichment sites.

In a statement posted on X, the IAEA said it could confirm “recent damage to entrance buildings” at the Natanz facility based on the latest available satellite images. However, the agency added that no radiological consequences were expected as a result of the strikes. Iranian authorities had earlier reported that Natanz was hit during the latest round of attacks, while the watchdog initially indicated that any military action had not caused major nuclear-related fallout.

The underground fuel enrichment plant at Natanz is one of three known uranium-enrichment facilities in Iran that were operational when Israel and the United States carried out strikes on Iranian nuclear infrastructure last June. The site has long been central to Iran’s nuclear programme and has previously been targeted in sabotage incidents and cyberattacks. Its fortified, subterranean design is intended to shield sensitive centrifuge operations from aerial bombardment.

The confirmation of damage to the facility’s entrances comes amid heightened regional tensions involving Iran, Israel and the United States. While there has been no immediate indication of a radiation leak or broader environmental impact, the development is likely to intensify diplomatic concerns over the stability of nuclear facilities in conflict zones. The IAEA said it continues to monitor the situation closely and will provide further updates as more information becomes available.
