Nashik Police Arrest Six, Including Team Lead, In Workplace Sexual Harassment Case

Six arrested after Nashik tech employees allege workplace sexual harassment.

Six employees of a multinational company, including a team leader, have been arrested after multiple women colleagues alleged sexual harassment and misconduct at their workplace, police said, in a case that has triggered widespread concern over corporate workplace safety.

According to investigators, at least nine First Information Reports (FIRs) have been registered against the accused, involving charges of sexual harassment, molestation, and hurting religious sentiments. The complaints, filed by several women employees, detail incidents that allegedly took place over a period of nearly four years, indicating a prolonged pattern of inappropriate behaviour within the organisation.

Police said one of the accused, reportedly in a senior role, is facing allegations of sexually exploiting a colleague under the pretext of marriage. Others have been accused of inappropriate physical contact, making objectionable remarks about women’s personal lives, and engaging in conduct that created a hostile work environment. The charges also include instances where religious sentiments were allegedly insulted, adding another dimension to the case.

The matter gained further seriousness after complaints suggested that concerns raised internally were not adequately addressed. In one instance, police noted that a senior official allegedly failed to act on repeated verbal complaints by a victim, effectively allowing the misconduct to continue. Such allegations have raised questions about internal grievance mechanisms and compliance with workplace safety norms, particularly under India’s Prevention of Sexual Harassment (POSH) framework.

Five of the accused were initially arrested and produced before a local court, which remanded them to police custody, while another accused has been sent to judicial custody. Authorities have formed a Special Investigation Team (SIT), led by a senior police officer, to conduct a detailed probe into the allegations and examine whether more individuals were involved.

Police have also urged other potential victims to come forward, assuring confidentiality and support. The case has sparked broader debate around workplace culture, accountability, and the effectiveness of corporate oversight in preventing harassment. As investigations continue, the incident is likely to intensify scrutiny on how companies handle complaints and ensure safe working environments for employees.
