Monsoon Session: INDIA Bloc MPs Slam Bihar Voter Roll Revision

Opposition demands rollback, alleges attack on democracy.

Prominent INDIA bloc leaders, including Congress chief Mallikarjun Kharge, Sonia Gandhi, Rahul Gandhi, Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, Samajwadi Party’s Akhilesh Yadav, TMC’s Derek O’Brien, Sagarika Ghose, DMK’s Kanimozhi, and A Raja, staged a protest in the Parliament House complex on Monday against the Election Commission’s Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of voter rolls in Bihar. The opposition alleges the exercise aims to disenfranchise voters ahead of the state’s Assembly elections.

Gathering at Makar Dwar with a banner reading “SIR - Attack on Democracy” and holding “Stop SIR” placards, MPs from Congress, DMK, TMC, Samajwadi Party, RJD, and Left parties raised slogans, marking their fifth consecutive day of protest. The opposition has been vocal in both Houses, demanding a rollback of the SIR and a discussion on the issue.

On Friday, Kharge, Rahul Gandhi, and other MPs tore “SIR” posters and discarded them in a bin during a dramatic protest march in the complex, intensifying their call for action. The ongoing demonstrations highlight the opposition’s concerns over potential voter suppression in Bihar.
