Monsoon Session: Congress Slams Modi calling him a “Super Premium Frequent Flyer”

Opposition demands PM’s presence for Monsoon session debates.

As the Monsoon session of Parliament kicks off today, the Congress party has demanded that Prime Minister Narendra Modi personally address critical issues, including the Pahalgam terror attack, Operation Sindoor, and U.S. President Donald Trump’s claims of brokering an India-Pakistan ceasefire, accusing him of dodging parliamentary accountability.

Congress general secretary Jairam Ramesh took a dig at Modi’s upcoming four-day visit to the UK and Maldives to strengthen bilateral ties and finalize the India-UK free trade deal, calling him a “Super Premium Frequent Flyer” whose absence will disappoint Manipur’s people. “Modi owes it to the nation to be present when Pahalgam-Operation Sindoor-President Trump is discussed,” Ramesh posted on X, criticizing the PM’s rare parliamentary appearances and his “platitudes and hypocrisy” in pre-session media addresses.

The government signaled openness to debating Operation Sindoor, India’s military response to the April 22 Pahalgam attack that killed 26, during an all-party meeting on Sunday. However, the INDIA bloc, comprising 24 opposition parties, insists Modi himself respond to allegations of intelligence failures, Trump’s repeated ceasefire claims, and the controversial Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls in Bihar, which they call a “backdoor NRC” threatening voting rights.

With the opposition united, the session, running until August 21, promises heated debates as they aim to hold the government accountable on national security and democratic concerns.
