MK Stalin After Defeat: “DMK Has Faced Defeats Before, We Will Return Stronger”

MK Stalin says DMK has faced defeats before and vows to return stronger after election loss.

Outgoing Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M. K. Stalin has made his first public remarks following a major electoral setback for the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam), stating that the party has faced both victories and defeats over its long political history. His comments came after the 2026 Assembly election results, which saw the DMK losing power to actor-politician Vijay and his newly formed Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam.

Stalin acknowledged the outcome in a reflective message on social media, noting that the DMK has been in power multiple times and has experienced electoral setbacks before. He emphasized that political journeys are marked by both success and failure, and that the party’s ideological commitment remains its core strength regardless of electoral results.

He further stated that in political life, preserving ideology is more important than electoral outcomes. Stalin said that those who continue working for their principles, irrespective of whether they are in power or in opposition, represent the true spirit of the party. He reaffirmed that the DMK will continue its political journey based on its ideological foundation.

The election marked a personal setback for Stalin as well, as he reportedly lost his Kolathur constituency to TVK candidate VS Babu. He has also submitted his resignation following the results. Stalin, who first became a Member of the Legislative Assembly in 1989, has served multiple terms across constituencies such as Thousand Lights and Kolathur, making him one of the most experienced leaders in the state.

While acknowledging the defeat, Stalin also pointed to the close vote margin between the DMK alliance and the winning side. He said the difference in vote share was narrow, noting that the alliance secured a substantial number of votes across the state. According to him, this reflects continued public trust in the party despite the electoral outcome.

Despite losing power, Stalin asserted that the DMK will continue its political role as a strong opposition force. He said the party will continue to raise public issues and advocate for people’s demands even outside government. Concluding his remarks, he expressed confidence that the party will regroup and return stronger in future elections.
