Mercedes Damaged After Tree Falls In East Of Kailash Amid Rainfall

Tree falls on Mercedes amid rain in Delhi locality.

Heavy rainfall and strong winds in Delhi on Tuesday caused damage to vehicles and disrupted traffic after a tree fell onto parked cars in the East of Kailash area of South East Delhi. A Mercedes car was badly damaged after the tree collapsed on Raja Dhir Singh Marg, while authorities confirmed that no injuries were reported in the incident.

The tree fell at around 1:30 pm when the vehicle was stationary, according to the car driver. Visuals from the spot showed large branches resting on the roof and bonnet of the Mercedes, causing significant damage. Another passing car was also reportedly affected after coming under the fallen branches, according to officials from the Delhi Fire Service (DFS).

The Delhi Fire Service received information about the incident at around 1:38 pm and immediately sent a fire tender to the location. Personnel from the Public Works Department (PWD) also reached the spot and began cutting and removing the fallen tree to clear the road and restore traffic movement. The collapse temporarily affected vehicles travelling through Raja Dhir Singh Marg.

The incident occurred as Delhi witnessed intense rainfall accompanied by strong winds, with the India Meteorological Department (IMD) issuing a red alert for the national capital. The weather department forecast moderate rainfall in several areas, with isolated heavy showers, thunderstorms, lightning, and wind speeds reaching up to 70 kmph.

The owner of the damaged Mercedes said that such incidents can increase during the monsoon season if vulnerable trees and branches are not properly maintained. He urged authorities to identify weak trees, remove risky branches, and take preventive steps to reduce rain-related damage and accidents in the city.

IMD data showed that several parts of Delhi and nearby areas received significant rainfall during the day. Najafgarh recorded the highest rainfall between 8:30 am and 2:30 pm at 76 mm, while Pusa received 37 mm, followed by Gurugram, Narayana, Ghaziabad, Janakpuri, Mayur Vihar, Pragati Maidan, and Jharoda Kalan. Officials said strong winds were likely a major factor behind the tree collapse, while further weather-related disruptions remain possible due to the ongoing alert.
