Mehbooba Mufti Writes To Kashmiri Pandit Leader Urging Dialogue And Unity
Mehbooba Mufti urges unity and dialogue between Kashmiri Pandits and Muslims.
Former Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister and Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) President Mehbooba Mufti has urged the Kashmiri Pandit community to set aside differences with local Muslims and work together for peace, dignity, and stability in the Union Territory. Her appeal comes amid ongoing political uncertainty in the region and renewed calls for dialogue involving all stakeholders.
In a letter addressed to Sanjay Tickoo, president of the Kashmiri Pandit Sangarsh Samiti, Mufti said Jammu and Kashmir is once again at a “critical juncture” marked by despair and uncertainty. She stressed that restoring dignity, security, and confidence among people requires sustained and constructive engagement, including dialogue with the Government of India.
Mufti emphasized that unity among communities is essential and called for a collective approach that rises above political and party lines. She urged stakeholders to make a joint appeal to the Prime Minister and Home Minister for meaningful and continuous engagement with the people of Jammu and Kashmir, arguing that the situation demands responsibility rather than political competition.

Drawing attention to recent developments in Ladakh, she pointed to the engagement between the Leh Apex Body and the Kargil Democratic Alliance with the Government of India as an example of how dialogue can lead to progress. She said such initiatives demonstrate that sustained discussions can help resolve long-standing issues when approached constructively.
The PDP chief appealed for differences to be put aside in the larger interest of the region’s future. She said unity among communities, particularly between Kashmiri Pandits and Muslims, is crucial for building a peaceful and dignified Jammu and Kashmir where people’s rights and aspirations are protected within the constitutional framework.
Mufti has consistently advocated for reconciliation and the return of Kashmiri Pandits to the Valley, often stating that Kashmir remains incomplete without their presence. Her latest statement continues her long-standing call for rebuilding traditional social harmony and encouraging trust between communities in the region.
