MEA Warns Indians Against Fake Job Offers in Iran, Urges Strict Vigilance

Citizens cautioned as criminal gangs exploit false employment promises in Iran.

The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) on Friday issued a stern advisory urging Indian citizens to exercise "strictest vigilance" when considering job opportunities in Iran, following a surge in fraudulent employment schemes. The warning comes in response to multiple incidents where Indian nationals were deceived with fake job offers, only to face severe consequences abroad.

The MEA highlighted cases where individuals were lured to Iran with promises of employment or assurances of onward travel to third countries for work. Upon arrival, many were kidnapped by criminal gangs who demanded ransoms from their families for their release. These incidents have raised alarms about the safety of Indian workers seeking overseas opportunities, particularly in regions with complex geopolitical dynamics.

The ministry clarified that Iran’s visa-free entry policy for Indian citizens applies solely to tourism, not employment. It cautioned that agents promising visa-free access for jobs may be collaborating with criminal networks, exploiting vulnerable job seekers. The advisory underscores the need for thorough verification of job offers, especially given Iran’s appeal as a destination due to its proximity and economic ties with India.

Indian citizens are urged to avoid falling for such deceptive offers and to consult official channels before pursuing overseas employment. The MEA’s alert reflects growing concerns over human trafficking and fraudulent recruitment, emphasizing proactive measures to protect Indian nationals from exploitation in high-risk regions.
