It's A Political Ploy! Mayawati Slams BJP’s ‘Saugat-e-Modi’

Mayawati Slams BJP’s ‘Saugat-e-Modi’ as a Political Ploy

Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) chief Mayawati on Wednesday dismissed the BJP’s newly launched ‘Saugat-e-Modi’ initiative for minorities as a “purely political” maneuver, a day after its rollout.

The BJP unveiled the nationwide program on Tuesday, targeting 32 lakh poor minority families with kits of eatables and clothes for women, timed with festivals like Eid, Baisakhi, Good Friday, and Easter, to foster engagement with these communities.

In a sharp rebuke on X, Mayawati questioned its sincerity: “While the BJP’s announcement to send the Prime Minister’s ‘love message and gift’ as ‘Saugat-e-Modi’ may seem benevolent, it only serves their political interests.”

She argued that such gestures ring hollow when “the Muslim and Bahujan community” continue grappling with fear, poverty, and unemployment. “I wonder what good this move would do,” she added, urging the BJP to tackle root causes instead.

Mayawati criticized the focus on “temporary gifts,” calling for lasting solutions. “Instead of distributing these, the central and state governments should have made permanent arrangements to combat the immense poverty, unemployment, and backwardness these communities face. Ensuring their security and stability should be a priority,” she asserted.

Her remarks underscore a broader critique of the BJP’s approach, framing ‘Saugat-e-Modi’ as electoral optics rather than substantive relief, intensifying the political slugfest in Uttar Pradesh.
