Mayawati Denies BSP Role To Nephew Akash Anand Over Failure To Repost Party Message

Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) chief Mayawati has ruled out giving any party position to her nephew Akash Anand, despite his father-in-law and former MP Ashok Siddharth announcing his political retirement. Mayawati said Anand would not be reinstated in the party, with his failure to repost one of her messages on X emerging as a key point in the latest episode involving the BSP's second-generation leadership. Anand, 31, has been at the centre of uncertainty over his political future within the BSP after a series of developments involving Mayawati and Siddharth. His position had appeared unclear, with the possibility of his return to an active role linked to the political status of his father-in-law.

Siddharth, a former Rajya Sabha member and a close aide of Mayawati, had announced his decision to retire from active politics, but that move did not result in Anand's reinstatement. Mayawati made clear that the decision regarding Anand's political role would not be reversed simply because Siddharth had announced his retirement. According to the account of the developments, she also pointed to Anand's conduct on social media. The BSP chief said her nephew had not retweeted a post she had shared on X, highlighting the importance she attached to public support for the party leadership and its positions. The episode marks another setback for Anand, who had once been projected as an important figure in the BSP's future.

Mayawati had earlier elevated him within the organisation and given him responsibilities, making him one of the most prominent members of the younger generation associated with the party. His subsequent removal from the BSP's active leadership created uncertainty over whether he would eventually return to an organisational role. Siddharth's political retirement had added another dimension to the question of Anand's position. The former MP had been closely associated with Mayawati and played a significant role in the BSP's organisational affairs.
