Mayawati Criticizes Nitish Kumar Over Naqab Incident, Urges Apology

Mayawati demands apology from Bihar CM over naqab row.

Bahujan Samaj Party chief Mayawati has strongly intervened in the ongoing controversy surrounding Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar's act of removing a woman's naqab during an appointment letter distribution event in Patna. Describing the incident as sad and unfortunate, Mayawati urged Kumar to express regret and take steps to resolve the escalating dispute, emphasizing its connection to women's safety and dignity.

In her detailed post on X, Mayawati highlighted how subsequent statements from certain ministers have further intensified the row. The incident occurred when Kumar, while handing appointment letters to AYUSH doctors, questioned and removed the veil from a female doctor's face, prompting widespread criticism from opposition parties demanding an unconditional apology.

Mayawati also addressed a separate controversy in Uttar Pradesh's Bahraich district, where police personnel accorded a guard of honour to a religious preacher, deviating from established protocols. She noted that this has placed the state government under scrutiny and praised the police chief's decision to seek an explanation, while calling for appropriate action to uphold disciplinary standards.

The BSP leader criticized the brief Winter Session of the Uttar Pradesh Assembly for prioritizing ruling-opposition debates over public welfare issues, such as fertilizer shortages for farmers. Similarly, she lamented the recently concluded Parliament Winter Session for lacking meaningful discussions on critical national concerns, including severe air pollution in Delhi.

Additionally, Mayawati expressed alarm over the deteriorating situation in Bangladesh, marked by rising anti-India activities and recent violence following the killing of a prominent youth leader. She called on the central government to adopt a comprehensive long-term policy to address these developments and safeguard national interests.
