Mayawati Accuses Opposition Parties Of Misleading Dalits Ahead Of Uttar Pradesh Elections

Mayawati makes political allegations ahead of UP elections.

Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) chief Mayawati has accused opposition parties of attempting to mislead Dalits and the wider Bahujan community ahead of the 2027 Uttar Pradesh Assembly elections. In a statement issued on Saturday, Mayawati alleged that certain political groups were using emotional campaigns and agitations to gain political advantage by exploiting issues concerning marginalised communities.

Mayawati said the BSP does not believe in politics based on road blockades, violence, vandalism or misinformation, and claimed that her party follows the principles of the Constitution and democratic values. Without naming any political organisation, she alleged that some groups were encouraging aggressive movements to create confusion among Dalits and Bahujans for electoral benefits.

The BSP leader claimed that her party has consistently worked for social transformation, political empowerment and economic upliftment of weaker sections. Referring to the BSP's previous governments in Uttar Pradesh, she said the party had focused on welfare measures, development initiatives and maintaining law and order while prioritising the interests of Dalits, backward classes, tribals, minorities and economically disadvantaged groups.

Mayawati further alleged that opposition parties were concerned about the BSP's expanding support base before the 2027 state elections and were attempting to divide the Bahujan community by influencing various organisations. She urged people to remain alert against what she described as efforts to weaken the community's political unity. She also warned that young people from deprived sections should avoid getting involved in protests that could lead to legal cases and affect their future prospects.

Highlighting the BSP's past political actions, Mayawati referred to the Saharanpur violence case and said the party had raised Dalit issues from the streets to Parliament. She recalled her resignation from the Rajya Sabha after expressing dissatisfaction with the response to the matter, describing it as a democratic form of protest. She reiterated that the BSP's approach has always been based on constitutional methods.

Mayawati also recalled the vision of BSP founder Kanshi Ram, saying the party was established to transform the Bahujan community into a strong political force capable of achieving social justice. She added that following Dr B.R. Ambedkar's belief that political power is a key instrument for social change remains central to the BSP's mission, while accusing opposing forces of attempting to obstruct that objective.
