Mamata Banerjee Targets BJP In Video Message Amid TMC Crisis, Says She Won't Back Down
Mamata sends defiant message amid TMC's ongoing crisis.
Trinamool Congress (TMC) chief Mamata Banerjee on Friday launched a sharp political attack on the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), accusing it of targeting her party leaders and workers in an attempt to weaken the organisation. In a video message, the former West Bengal chief minister said that the BJP would have to "kill" her if it wanted to silence her voice or bring an end to the TMC's political movement. Banerjee's remarks came amid a period of internal challenges for the TMC, including reports of disagreements and unrest involving some party members. Breaking her silence on the recent developments, she alleged that the BJP had been using intimidation tactics against TMC leaders and supporters.
She said that despite such pressure, she would continue to stand by her party and its workers. "To silence me, you would have to kill me. Yes, you didn't spare any effort on that," Banerjee said in the video message. Her statement reflected her long-standing political confrontation with the BJP, with the TMC chief accusing the opposition party of attempting to create fear among political opponents through pressure and alleged attacks. During the address, Banerjee claimed that several prominent TMC leaders had been targeted by the BJP.
She specifically mentioned senior party figures including Mahua Moitra, Abhishek Banerjee and Kalyan Banerjee, alleging that they had faced attacks and humiliation. "Whom haven't you assaulted? You attacked Mahua, Abhishek, Kalyan. You attacked my home," she said, while accusing the BJP of escalating its political campaign against the Trinamool Congress. The allegations come against the backdrop of a highly competitive political environment in West Bengal, where the TMC and BJP have emerged as the two main political forces.

The two parties have repeatedly clashed over issues such as governance, corruption allegations, law and order, and the role of central agencies in investigations involving political leaders. Banerjee has frequently accused the BJP-led central government of misusing investigative agencies to target opposition parties and weaken elected governments. The TMC has maintained that several investigations involving its leaders are politically motivated. The BJP, however, has rejected these allegations, stating that law enforcement agencies act independently and that investigations are conducted based on evidence and legal procedures.
The TMC chief's latest comments also come at a time when the party is attempting to address internal challenges and maintain unity among its leadership. Banerjee has previously urged party members to remain disciplined and focused on organisational issues while preparing for future political battles. Abhishek Banerjee, who is Mamata Banerjee's nephew and the TMC's national general secretary, has emerged as one of the party's key leaders and has frequently criticised the BJP's policies. Mahua Moitra and Kalyan Banerjee are also prominent figures within the party and have been vocal on national political issues.
The BJP has strengthened its presence in West Bengal over the past decade and has consistently challenged the TMC's dominance in the state. While the Trinamool Congress remains the ruling party, the BJP has positioned itself as the principal opposition force and has continued to target the state government on several issues. Mamata Banerjee's latest remarks are expected to intensify the political confrontation between the two parties. With both the TMC and BJP preparing for future electoral contests, exchanges between the rival camps are likely to become sharper as they seek to consolidate support among voters across West Bengal.
