Mamata Banerjee Accuses BJP Of Filing Cases To Block Bhabanipur Nomination
Mamata alleges BJP used false cases to block Bhabanipur candidature.
West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on Saturday accused the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) of attempting to cancel her candidature from the Bhabanipur Assembly seat by filing what she described as “false cases.”
Addressing party workers, Banerjee alleged that multiple legal complaints were deliberately lodged against her to obstruct her participation in the electoral process. She claimed the move was part of a broader strategy by political opponents to target her and weaken the All India Trinamool Congress ahead of key elections in the state.
The Trinamool Congress chief said such tactics reflect desperation and asserted that she would continue to fight what she termed as politically motivated attempts to derail her campaign. Banerjee also maintained that the people of West Bengal would respond decisively to such actions through the ballot box.

The BJP has not issued an immediate detailed response to the specific allegations but has consistently denied similar claims in the past, arguing that legal processes are independent and not driven by political considerations. Party leaders have often countered that allegations of “false cases” are used by opponents to deflect from accountability.
The Bhabanipur seat holds particular political significance for Banerjee, having previously contested and won from the constituency. Any challenge to her candidature would carry major implications for the state’s political landscape and the balance of power in the Assembly.
Banerjee’s remarks are expected to further escalate the political rhetoric in West Bengal, where tensions between the ruling Trinamool Congress and the BJP remain high. The issue of alleged misuse of legal mechanisms is likely to feature prominently in the ongoing political discourse as elections approach.
