Madras HC to Hear TVK Leader Aadhav Arjuna’s Plea to Quash FIR Over Controversial Post on Nov 5
TVK leader Aadhav Arjuna moves HC to dismiss FIR over deleted social media post urging “uprising.”
The Madras High Court has scheduled a November 5 hearing for a petition by Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) general secretary Aadhav Arjuna, who is seeking to quash an FIR lodged by Greater Chennai Police over a controversial social media post. Arjuna, in charge of the party’s election campaign, faces charges stemming from an X post—swiftly deleted—urging supporters to launch an “uprising as in neighboring countries.”
During initial proceedings before the first bench comprising Chief Justice Manindra Mohan Shrivastava and Justice G Arul Murugan, the court directed the registry to transfer the plea to the appropriate criminal bench. The petition was tagged alongside cases related to the Karur stampede, but Arjuna’s legal challenge centers solely on the allegedly inflammatory online statement.
In his filing, Arjuna demands an interim injunction halting all further investigation and the complete dismissal of the FIR, labeling it “motivated, frivolous, and vexatious.” He contends the case targets him solely for criticizing public atrocities, framing it as an assault on free expression.

The post, which invoked revolutionary actions seen in nearby nations, triggered swift police action despite its rapid removal. Authorities argue it risked inciting unrest, while Arjuna maintains the response exemplifies political suppression. The upcoming hearing will determine whether the FIR stands or collapses under claims of overreach.
