M. K. Stalin Launches Statewide Protest Campaign Over Delimitation Issue

Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M. K. Stalin has called for a statewide black flag protest against the Centre over the contentious issue of delimitation, escalating political tensions ahead of the upcoming assembly elections. The protest is scheduled for tomorrow, with Stalin urging widespread public participation across the state.

Framing the move as a symbolic resistance, Stalin described it as a “black protest against a black act” and appealed to every household in Tamil Nadu to hoist black flags. He emphasised that the issue goes beyond politics, presenting it as a broader fight to safeguard the state’s political rights and representation at the national level.

The Chief Minister strongly criticised the BJP-led Centre, warning that any attempt to redraw parliamentary constituencies solely based on population could have serious consequences. He argued that such a move would disproportionately impact states like Tamil Nadu, which have successfully controlled population growth, and questioned whether they were being penalised for contributing to national development.

Stalin further cautioned that the proposed changes could undermine federal balance and take the country “into the dark ages.” His remarks reflect growing concerns among regional leaders about the potential impact of delimitation on political representation, especially in southern states.

The call for protest follows a series of strategic meetings held by Stalin, including discussions with DMK Members of Parliament and party district secretaries. These meetings indicate a coordinated political campaign on the issue, as the party looks to mobilise public sentiment and assert its stance in the ongoing national debate over delimitation.
