LoP R Ashoka Hits Out At Karnataka Govt Over Unpaid Contractors
Opposition leader alleges delay in clearing contractors’ bills across Karnataka.
Leader of Opposition R. Ashoka on Monday criticised the Karnataka government over alleged delays in clearing pending payments to contractors, accusing the administration of financial mismanagement and neglecting infrastructure commitments.
Ashoka, a senior leader of the Bharatiya Janata Party, claimed that several contractors executing public works across the state have not received their dues for months. He alleged that the delay has stalled ongoing projects and placed severe financial strain on contractors, particularly small and medium firms dependent on government payments.
According to the Opposition leader, incomplete and delayed projects have affected road works, civic infrastructure, and development schemes in multiple districts. He urged the state government to immediately release the pending funds, warning that prolonged delays could further slow development and erode public trust.

The Karnataka government, led by the Indian National Congress, has not issued a detailed response to the latest criticism. However, officials in the past have attributed payment delays to procedural reviews and financial adjustments, maintaining that legitimate claims are being processed in phases.
The issue of contractors’ dues has periodically surfaced in Karnataka’s political discourse, often triggering sharp exchanges between the ruling party and the Opposition. With infrastructure development a key political plank, the dispute is likely to intensify as both sides seek to shape public perception ahead of future electoral contests.
