Kunal Kamra Faces Backlash Over T-Shirt Mocking RSS, BJP Threatens Police Action

Comedian Kunal Kamra sparked fresh controversy after sharing a photo on social media wearing a T-shirt that allegedly mocked the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS), the ideological mentor of the BJP. The post drew sharp criticism from senior BJP leaders in Maharashtra, who warned that police action could be taken against Kamra for posting what they described as "objectionable" content online.

Maharashtra minister and senior BJP leader Chandrashekhar Bawankule emphasized that authorities would intervene against anyone posting such material. The T-shirt Kamra wore reportedly featured an image of a dog alongside a reference to the RSS, which BJP leaders found insulting and provocative. Kamra responded defiantly on social media, clarifying that the photograph was "not clicked at a comedy club" to push back against assertions that it was part of a performance.

Shiv Sena cabinet minister Sanjay Shirsat, whose party is allied with the BJP, also weighed in, urging a strong response from the RSS. Shirsat highlighted Kamra's previous controversial remarks targeting Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde. Earlier this year, Kamra faced backlash for mimicking a political song lyric mocking Shinde's career, which led to Shiv Sena members vandalizing a comedy club in Mumbai hosting Kamra's shows.

BJP leaders described Kamra's latest post as deliberately provocative and insulting, escalating political tensions. The controversy adds to the ongoing disputes involving Kamra’s outspoken criticism of prominent political figures, placing the comedian once again at the center of political and social debate.​
