Kunal Ghosh Accuses Suvendu-Led Government of Selectively Targeting TMC Supporters
Kunal Ghosh alleged selective harassment of Mamata supporters.
Trinamool Congress (TMC) MLA Kunal Ghosh on Sunday accused the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP)-led administration in West Bengal of selectively targeting leaders loyal to former Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee through investigations and legal action. His remarks came amid the ongoing political friction within the ruling TMC and controversy surrounding the Taratala building collapse case. Ghosh alleged that those perceived to be aligned with Banerjee were facing harassment through the reopening of old cases, while others were allegedly being spared scrutiny.
Addressing reporters, Ghosh claimed that leaders who continue to support Mamata Banerjee and the Trinamool Congress she founded were being subjected to what he described as "repression and oppression." He alleged that party members loyal to Banerjee were being implicated in previous cases or facing fresh charges, whereas individuals aligned with the opposing faction were not being treated similarly.
"Those who are with Mamata Banerjee—that is, with the TMC that she founded—are being targeted through repression and oppression by being implicated in old cases or other charges, whereas those on the other side are being let off. People supporting Mamata Banerjee are being arrested and harassed," Ghosh said, according to ANI.
The TMC legislator also criticised Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari over allegations linked to the Taratala building collapse case. During proceedings in the state Assembly on Thursday, Adhikari had alleged that the sanctioned building plan for the structure bore the signature of former Kolkata Mayor and senior TMC leader Firhad Hakim. The allegation has added a political dimension to the investigation into the building collapse, with opposition leaders demanding accountability from those involved in approving the project.

Responding to the claims, Ghosh questioned why no action was being taken against individuals whose signatures allegedly appeared on official documents related to the building plan. He argued that the authorities were instead focusing on leaders considered close to Mamata Banerjee, reinforcing what he described as a pattern of selective action.
According to Ghosh, if the investigation is intended to establish accountability, it should examine the role of all officials connected with the approval process rather than targeting only a specific group of political leaders.
The latest exchange reflects the continuing political tensions within West Bengal, where allegations of selective investigations and political vendetta have frequently accompanied high-profile cases. The Taratala building collapse has already attracted significant public attention, with demands for a thorough probe into the circumstances leading to the incident.
As investigations continue, the competing claims made by the ruling party and opposition are expected to remain at the centre of the political discourse, while authorities proceed with inquiries into the collapse and any alleged administrative lapses.
