KTR Reacts To Hyderabad Metro Debate, Targets CM Revanth Reddy
KTR accuses Telangana leaders of politicising Hyderabad Metro issue.
Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) working president K.T. Rama Rao (KTR) on Tuesday alleged that Telangana Chief Minister Revanth Reddy and Union Minister G. Kishan Reddy were “staging political dramas” over the Hyderabad Metro Rail issue, while concealing what he described as a large-scale financial irregularity involving metro rail assets.
Addressing a meeting of BRS cadres in Serilingampally, KTR claimed that assets linked to the Hyderabad Metro Rail project, including nearly 250 acres of valuable land, were worth around ₹30,000 crore. He alleged that there were attempts to transfer control of these assets to individuals close to the Chief Minister, calling it a serious misuse of public resources.
The BRS leader further alleged that L&T Metro Rail officials were pressured to exit the project, and that such actions were intended to facilitate a takeover of key metro assets. He also claimed that the state government was attempting to shift nearly ₹14,000 crore of debt onto public finances, which he said should have remained with the private operator, thereby creating financial strain on the project.

KTR said the controversy surrounding the metro project was being used as a political cover and insisted that his party had consistently warned about alleged corruption in advance. He stated that the people of Telangana would eventually understand how metro-linked lands and assets were being handled and who ultimately benefited from such decisions.
He also questioned the role of the central government, alleging that while metro projects had been approved for several smaller cities in Uttar Pradesh, similar approvals for Telangana had been delayed or denied. KTR accused both the Congress and the BJP of political coordination at the national level while projecting differences in Hyderabad for public attention.
Referring to past infrastructure decisions, KTR said the cancellation of the Hyderabad Airport Metro project and delays in metro expansion reflected a lack of planning and vision by the current administration. He added that the previous BRS government had already completed a major portion of the Hyderabad Metro Rail project and had earlier proposed further expansions to improve urban connectivity in the city.
