Kharge To Chair Urgent Congress Meeting Of Senior Leaders Today

Congress reviews political developments amid opposition alliance discussions.

The Congress party has convened an urgent meeting of its senior leadership, including general secretaries, state in-charges and Pradesh Congress Committee (PCC) chiefs, to discuss current political developments and the party’s future strategy. The meeting is scheduled to be held on Thursday at Indira Bhawan in New Delhi and will be presided over by Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge.

According to Congress general secretary (organisation) K C Venugopal, the meeting has been called to deliberate on emerging political situations and to chalk out the party’s response. In an official communication, he described the gathering as an “urgent meeting” of the All India Congress Committee (AICC) leadership, indicating the importance of the discussions expected to take place.

The meeting comes amid heightened political activity within opposition ranks, particularly following a series of recent interactions between key leaders. Speculation has increased over potential realignments within the broader opposition alliance after recent meetings involving senior Congress and Trinamool Congress leaders.

On Wednesday, Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi met Trinamool Congress national general secretary Abhishek Banerjee at 10 Janpath in New Delhi. The meeting added to political speculation regarding coordination between opposition parties ahead of future electoral and strategic planning.

A day earlier, Trinamool Congress supremo Mamata Banerjee met former Congress president Sonia Gandhi at her residence, where discussions reportedly focused on strengthening opposition unity and exploring avenues for greater collaboration among non-BJP parties.

The sequence of meetings has triggered political discussions about the possibility of closer coordination between major opposition parties, even as each organisation continues to maintain its independent political positioning. The Congress leadership’s urgent meeting is expected to assess the evolving situation and determine its next course of action in response to these developments.

The deliberations at Indira Bhawan are likely to focus on organisational strategy, alliance dynamics, and the party’s positioning in the current political landscape, as opposition parties navigate shifting equations ahead of upcoming political challenges.
