Key Aide's Ultimatum To Mamata Banerjee Triggers Trinamool Crisis Over Abhishek Banerjee Row

Key aide ultimatum triggers Trinamool leadership crisis escalation tensions

The Trinamool Congress has been pushed into a fresh political controversy after senior leader Kalyan Banerjee launched a sharp attack on party national general secretary Abhishek Banerjee, exposing widening internal tensions within West Bengal’s ruling party. The remarks come at a sensitive time for the organisation, which is already dealing with the fallout of a significant electoral setback.

Kalyan Banerjee, once considered a close and trusted aide of Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, expressed strong dissatisfaction with Abhishek Banerjee’s leadership style, accusing him of arrogance and mismanagement within the party structure. Speaking to news agency IANS, he said the current atmosphere within the organisation had become difficult for long-time workers like himself, alleging that internal functioning had been severely affected.

In his comments, Kalyan Banerjee criticised Abhishek Banerjee’s behaviour, claiming it was damaging party unity and morale. He further alleged that repeated instances of what he described as a “king-like attitude” were making it increasingly difficult for senior leaders to function effectively within the organisational framework. The remarks have intensified speculation about a growing power struggle within the party’s top ranks.

The controversy gains added significance in the context of the Trinamool Congress’s recent electoral performance. After dominating West Bengal politics for more than a decade with consecutive Assembly and strong Lok Sabha results, the party’s sharp decline in the latest election has raised questions about leadership cohesion and organisational discipline.

Political observers note that the internal rift highlights deeper structural challenges within the Trinamool Congress, including allegations of disconnect between senior leadership and grassroots workers. While the party continues to be centred around Mamata Banerjee’s leadership, the latest outburst underscores emerging tensions that could shape its internal dynamics in the coming months.
