Kerala CM V. D. Satheesan Meets Congress High Command In Delhi Visit

CM Satheesan meets Congress leadership after Kerala leadership victory.

Kerala Chief Minister V. D. Satheesan is set to travel to New Delhi later on Friday for a series of meetings with senior Congress leadership, in what party sources describe as a “thanksgiving visit” following his recent elevation to the state’s top post after an intense internal leadership contest.

During his visit, Satheesan is scheduled to meet key Congress figures, including Sonia Gandhi, Rahul Gandhi, Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, and party president Mallikarjun Kharge on Saturday. The meetings are expected to focus on post-election coordination, organisational direction, and the relationship between the Kerala government and the party’s central leadership as the new administration settles into office.

The visit comes shortly after Satheesan was sworn in as Chief Minister following the Congress-led United Democratic Front’s electoral victory in Kerala. His appointment followed a closely watched internal race involving several senior leaders, including K. C. Venugopal and Ramesh Chennithala. Party insiders say his selection marked a decisive outcome after weeks of deliberations within the Congress high command.

After taking charge, Satheesan moved quickly to form a 21-member Cabinet, signalling an early effort to establish administrative stability and assert control over governance priorities. Political observers say the swift cabinet formation reflects an attempt to avoid internal uncertainty and maintain momentum following the election win.

The upcoming Delhi visit is also seen as part of efforts to maintain close coordination between the Kerala government and the Congress leadership at the national level. Party sources indicate that while the visit is largely ceremonial in nature, it also provides an opportunity to align policy priorities and discuss development-related issues concerning the state.

Satheesan is not expected to meet Prime Minister Narendra Modi during this trip. However, officials suggest that he may return to the national capital later this month for formal discussions on Kerala’s development projects and pending approvals from the Centre. Political analysts believe the engagement between the new state leadership and the Congress high command will be closely watched as the government begins its tenure.
