Kejriwal Condemns Srinagar Police Station Blast, Demands Accountability Over Security Failures

Arvind Kejriwal criticizes Centre over Srinagar police station blast, demands accountability.

Former Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal on Saturday voiced deep grief over the late-night explosion near the Nowgam police station in Srinagar, describing the incident as "extremely tragic and worrying." The blast, which resulted in the deaths of at least nine police personnel and injuries to many others, has reignited concerns over India’s internal security framework.

In a post on X, Kejriwal extended condolences to the families of the martyred officers and wished speedy recovery for the injured. He noted that the country was still grappling with the aftermath of the recent Delhi blast when another explosion shook the nation, sharply criticizing the Centre’s security apparatus for apparent lapses. “It is important to ask the government what exactly is happening in the country? What are the government, security agencies, intelligence systems, and the Home Minister doing?” he questioned.

Kejriwal pointed to serious deficiencies in preparedness and coordination, demanding a thorough explanation from the Union Home Ministry on how such a grave compromise on national security was permitted. Emphasizing that safeguarding internal security is a fundamental government responsibility, he warned that continued incidents erode public trust and stated firmly, “The country wants answers.”

Following the blast, security has been tightened across sensitive areas, with additional forces deployed. Senior CRPF official Inspector General Pawan Kumar Sharma led relief and assessment operations at the site. Investigations link the terror module responsible for the blast to a larger network involved in the November 10 Delhi Red Fort explosion, highlighting disturbing cross-regional terror activities.

Authorities have urged the public to cooperate with security personnel and avoid the blast vicinity as rescue and investigation efforts continue. The incident underscores ongoing challenges for India’s security agencies amid increasingly sophisticated terror threats.
