KC Venugopal Accuses Pinarayi Vijayan Of Targeting Rahul Gandhi, Silent On PM Modi

Venugopal accuses Pinarayi of targeting Rahul Gandhi, ignoring PM Modi.

Senior Congress leader K. C. Venugopal on Friday accused Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan of selectively targeting Rahul Gandhi while remaining “silent” on Prime Minister Narendra Modi, intensifying political sparring between the Congress and the Left.

Venugopal alleged that Vijayan’s recent remarks were politically motivated and aimed at undermining Gandhi, who represents the Wayanad constituency in Kerala. He argued that the state leadership of the Left Democratic Front (LDF) has repeatedly criticised Congress leaders but avoided direct confrontation with the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) at the national level.

The Congress leader further claimed that such positioning raises questions about the LDF’s broader political strategy, particularly in a state where both the Congress-led United Democratic Front (UDF) and the LDF are principal rivals. According to Venugopal, the perceived reluctance to criticise Modi suggests an attempt to shift focus away from national issues and instead target opposition figures within Kerala.

In response, leaders from the Communist Party of India (Marxist), led by Vijayan in the state, have previously maintained that their criticism of Congress is based on ideological differences and political accountability. They have also asserted that the party continues to oppose BJP policies at both the state and national levels, rejecting allegations of selective silence.

The exchange comes amid heightened political activity in Kerala, where rival alliances are positioning themselves ahead of future electoral contests. With Rahul Gandhi maintaining a strong political presence in Wayanad, criticism directed at him often carries broader implications for Congress’s standing in the state.

The latest remarks underscore the ongoing friction between Congress and Left parties, even as both oppose the BJP nationally. The competing narratives highlight the complexities of opposition politics in India, where regional rivalries and national strategies frequently intersect.
