Karnataka Lokayukta Conducts Multi-District Raids Targeting Officers Over Illegal Wealth

Statewide swoop hits officials in eight districts.

In a major escalation of its anti-corruption drive, Karnataka Lokayukta police executed meticulously planned simultaneous raids at more than ten locations across eight districts on Tuesday morning, targeting serving government officers accused of amassing wealth grossly disproportionate to their declared sources of income.

The sweeping operation covered Mandya, Bidar, Mysuru, Dharwad, Haveri, Bengaluru, Shivamogga, and Davanagere, with specialised teams sealing residences, official chambers, and other properties linked to nine officers from diverse departments, including public works, town planning, irrigation, revenue, higher education, animal husbandry, and medical education.

Key individuals facing scrutiny include Assistant Executive Engineer (PWD) D.M. Girish, Chief Accounts Officer (Mandya Urban Development) C. Puttaswamy, Chief Engineer of Upper Krishna Project (Bidar) Prem Singh, Revenue Inspector of Hootagalli Municipality (Mysuru) C. Ramaswamy, Assistant Professor at Karnataka University (Dharwad) Subhash Chandra, Senior Veterinary Examiner Huilgol Sathish, Executive Engineer (Haveri) Shekappa, RTO Office Superintendent at Electronics City (Bengaluru) P. Kumaraswamy, and First Division Assistant at SIMS Medical College (Shivamogga) C.N. Lakshmipathi.

These raids come on the heels of intensified Lokayukta activity: just weeks ago on November 7, surprise inspections across six Bengaluru Regional Transport Offices exposed rampant irregularities, while the October 14 operation against twelve officials yielded documented assets worth ₹381.08 crore, comprising prime real estate, luxury residences, cash, gold jewellery, high-end vehicles, and other movable and immovable properties.

The Karnataka government has reiterated its commitment to zero tolerance against corruption, stating that such large-scale, intelligence-driven operations are intended to deter public servants from exploiting their positions and to reassure citizens that systemic graft will be met with swift and decisive action. Valuation of seized documents and assets from Tuesday’s raids is currently underway, with further disclosures anticipated.
