Karnataka Congress Leader Warns of ‘Designed Conspiracy’ by BJP

Congress alleges BJP’s conspiracy to steal people’s mandate.

In a fiery press conference in Bengaluru, Congress General Secretary and Karnataka in-charge Randeep Singh Surjewala launched a scathing attack on the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), accusing it of orchestrating a “designed conspiracy” to undermine India’s democracy through what he termed ‘Vote Chori’ (vote theft). Surjewala described this alleged manipulation as a direct assault on the Constitution and the fundamental right to vote, sparking a nationwide debate on the integrity of the electoral process.

Speaking at the launch of a signature campaign in Pulakeshinagar, Surjewala claimed that the BJP’s tactics extend beyond isolated incidents in constituencies like Mahadevapura and Aland in Karnataka or an assembly seat in Maharashtra, recently highlighted by Congress leader Rahul Gandhi. “This isn’t just about one constituency. ‘Vote Chori’ is a calculated attack on the soul of India’s democracy, stripping citizens of their right to choose their leaders,” he declared, pointing to a broader pattern of electoral malpractice.

Surjewala invoked the legacy of India’s freedom fighters, including B.R. Ambedkar, Jawaharlal Nehru, Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel, Abul Kalam Azad, and Dr. Rajendra Prasad, who enshrined the principle of “one man, one vote” in the Constitution. He accused the BJP of violating this sacred tenet, calling it a betrayal of the nation’s democratic foundation. “The sinister forces of the BJP are eroding the very essence of our Constitution,” he said, urging citizens to join the Congress’s nationwide campaign to expose and combat vote theft.

The Congress leader also criticized the Election Commission of India, labeling it a “mute spectator” and even a “participant” in the alleged conspiracy. He hinted at forthcoming revelations by Rahul Gandhi, suggesting that new evidence would soon expose the full extent of the BJP’s actions. “As the data unfolds, the nation will see how deep this attack on our democracy runs,” Surjewala warned, positioning the issue as a critical threat to India’s democratic fabric.

Addressing internal party matters, Surjewala dismissed rumors of dissent within the Karnataka Congress following recent statements on power-sharing. He affirmed that Pradesh Congress Committee (PCC) president and Deputy Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar has full authority to ensure party discipline. “Some individuals get carried away by emotions and speak beyond their brief. I’ve instructed Shivakumar to handle it,” he stated, signaling a firm grip on internal dynamics.

Surjewala emphasized that the Congress’s focus in Karnataka remains on empowering citizens through inclusive governance and delivering on the party’s five guarantees, which include welfare schemes aimed at uplifting the state’s residents. The signature campaign, he said, is a call to action for citizens to protect their democratic rights and hold accountable those who seek to manipulate the electoral process.

As the controversy intensifies, Surjewala’s allegations have ignited a political firestorm, with the BJP yet to respond formally. The Congress’s campaign is gaining traction, raising questions about the transparency of India’s electoral system and setting the stage for a heated confrontation ahead of future polls. With Rahul Gandhi poised to unveil more evidence, the nation watches closely as this battle over democracy unfolds.
