Kangana Ranaut Reacts To Alleged Obscene Language During Student Protests
Actor-politician raises concerns over protest language.
BJP MP and actor-turned-politician Kangana Ranaut on Tuesday questioned the language allegedly used by student protesters during recent demonstrations over exam irregularities, sparking a political debate over her remarks against the youth-led protests. Speaking to reporters on the Parliament premises, Ranaut raised concerns about the conduct of some protesters and questioned whether they would be able to handle potential legal challenges in the future.
Ranaut said that while student protests have historically been a part of public discourse, the use of what she described as “obscene language” by some young protesters was unacceptable. She questioned whether students or their families would have the financial ability to hire Supreme Court lawyers or legal experts if they faced legal consequences. She added that many young people may not have the resources to manage such situations independently.
The BJP MP further criticised the behaviour displayed in some social media content related to the protests, saying that young people should consider the impact of their words and actions on their families and society. Her comments came after she earlier described certain Gen Z social media content related to protests as “puke-inducing” and criticised what she called inappropriate language and conduct.

Ranaut’s remarks received criticism from opposition leaders and student representatives, who accused her of making insensitive comments against young people exercising their democratic rights. NSUI member Sarvagya Yadav said the comments were disrespectful and argued that youth have the right to raise their voices on issues affecting them. He also criticised Ranaut’s earlier social media post targeting Gen Z protesters.
Samajwadi Party MP Dimple Yadav also condemned Ranaut’s remarks, saying that such statements were disappointing from a public representative. JMM MP Mahua Maji said the comments did not reflect a healthy mindset and argued that public figures should maintain responsibility in their statements. The controversy has triggered a wider discussion on the conduct of protests, freedom of expression, and the role of public figures in political debates.
