#JUSTIN: Strike Kills 4 in Baghdad As Drone, Rocket Attacks Target US Embassy

At least four people were killed in an early morning strike on a house in Baghdad on Tuesday, according to two Iraqi security officials, with initial reports suggesting that two of those killed were Iranian advisors. The strike targeted a residence in the al-Jadiriyah neighbourhood, an upscale district in the Iraqi capital that has previously hosted diplomatic and political figures.

Another source linked to an Iran-backed faction confirmed that four people were killed in the attack on the house where Iranian advisors were believed to be staying. Details about the nature of the strike and the identities of the victims were not immediately clear, and authorities had yet to officially confirm whether the advisors were affiliated with Iran’s military or other organisations.

Hours later, a separate drone and rocket attack targeted the US Embassy in Baghdad, according to a security official. The official said the embassy complex came under attack from three drones and four rockets, with at least one drone reportedly crashing inside the compound.

An AFP journalist in the area reported seeing black smoke rising from the embassy complex after an explosion. Air defence systems were also seen intercepting another drone in the sky above the diplomatic zone, indicating an active attempt to repel the assault.

Earlier in the night, air defences had already thwarted a separate rocket attack directed at the embassy. While there were no immediate reports of casualties from the attack on the diplomatic mission, the incidents underscored growing security concerns in the Iraqi capital amid escalating regional tensions.

The attacks come against the backdrop of heightened conflict across the Middle East, particularly involving Iran and the United States, raising fears that Iraq could once again become a focal point for proxy confrontations between rival powers. Authorities have launched investigations into both incidents as security forces remain on alert across Baghdad.
