Jothimani Alleges Selfish Motives Within Tamil Nadu Congress, Calls for Unity Ahead of Polls
MP Jothimani blasts leaders for selfish infighting disaster.
Congress Lok Sabha MP S Jothimani launched a scathing attack on the Tamil Nadu Congress Committee leadership, accusing it of steering the state unit toward gradual destruction through selfish interests and internal conflicts. In a strongly worded social media post, she expressed profound distress over the ongoing infighting, asserting that such actions contradict the selfless and principled politics exemplified by party leader Rahul Gandhi. Jothimani emphasized the need to honor Gandhi's sacrifices and hard work, warning that betrayal of these values would undermine the party's foundation in the state.
Highlighting specific instances of dysfunction, Jothimani claimed that no other political party would deliberately hinder an MP's submission of polling station agents to the Election Commission ahead of elections, yet such occurrences were reportedly taking place within the Congress. With Tamil Nadu Assembly elections scheduled for March-April 2026, she lamented that the state unit frequently made headlines for negative reasons rather than advocating for public issues. She further alleged efforts to weaken ideological commitments and political activities, describing these developments as deeply anguishing amid rising communal and divisive threats.
Jothimani underscored the broader political context, noting that Tamil Nadu faces unprecedented dangers from forces promoting division and violence, which seek to erode ideals of social justice, self-respect, and welfare-centric governance—principles championed by historic figures like K Kamaraj and Periyar EV Ramasamy. She questioned whether the Congress party fully comprehended its responsibility to confront these challenges thoughtfully during the upcoming polls, urging the leadership not to abandon the people's ongoing struggle for state rights and social equity against communal schemes.

The MP appealed to genuine Congress workers to recognize their collective duty to halt the destructive path driven by a few leaders' personal ambitions, which prioritize electoral calculations over ideology and public concerns. She stressed that the party's enduring respect in Tamil Nadu stems from the legacy of Kamaraj and the sacrifices of the Nehru-Gandhi family, alongside the dedication of grassroots workers who proudly uphold the party flag in villages despite nearly six decades out of power. Internal indiscipline and bickering, she argued, must cease to preserve this heritage.
This outspoken criticism from Jothimani follows previous tensions, including her accusations against DMK leader V Senthil Balaji for allegedly poaching Congress workers, and recent intra-alliance frictions involving criticisms of the Tamil Nadu government's debt. TNCC President K Selvaperunthagai dismissed the allegations as unfounded and declined further comment. Amid speculations of shifting alliances, the Congress has reaffirmed its partnership with the ruling DMK by forming a committee for seat-sharing discussions ahead of the 2026 elections.
