Jay Pawar Says Sunetra Pawar Could Be NCP’s CM Face In 2029 Maharashtra Polls
Jay Pawar projects Sunetra Pawar as Maharashtra CM face 2029.
Political speculation intensified in Maharashtra after Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) leader Ajit Pawar’s son Jay Pawar publicly projected his mother and Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Sunetra Pawar as a potential Chief Ministerial face for the 2029 Assembly elections. His remarks were made during a Jansamvad programme in Baramati, a key political stronghold of the Pawar family.
Jay Pawar said there was a strong sentiment among party workers in favour of Sunetra Pawar being elevated as the CM candidate in the next state elections. He claimed that discussions within party circles reflected a growing belief that she could emerge as a major leadership figure in Maharashtra politics in the coming years.
He added that after Sunetra Pawar’s recent electoral performance in the Baramati region, her popularity had expanded beyond local politics. According to him, party workers now view her not just as a Deputy Chief Minister but as a potential future Chief Minister. He said the demand for her leadership was coming from the grassroots level, especially from supporters in Baramati.

However, Jay Pawar clarified that any final decision regarding leadership would rest with the party’s top leadership. He also mentioned that while some people were encouraging him to contest the 2029 Assembly elections from Baramati, he currently considers himself focused on organisational work within the party rather than electoral ambitions.
His comments have added fresh momentum to internal political discussions within the NCP, particularly as the party continues to consolidate its position in western Maharashtra. Analysts see the statement as an early signal of long-term leadership positioning within the Pawar political camp ahead of the next major electoral cycle.
Opposition and rival party leaders reacted cautiously to the remarks. Some leaders said leadership decisions would ultimately depend on electoral strength and public mandate, while others noted that political aspirations must align with ground realities and alliance dynamics in the state. The remarks have nonetheless triggered wider debate over potential future leadership scenarios in Maharashtra politics ahead of 2029.
