Jamiat Head Supports Al Falah University During Terror Probe, Draws BJP Attack

Jamiat Chief alleges discrimination, BJP accuses him of exploitation.

Jamiat Ulema-e-Hind President Arshad Madani has ignited a fierce political controversy by alleging systemic discrimination against Muslims in India, drawing parallels between successful Muslim leaders abroad and the plight of figures like jailed politician Azam Khan and the embattled Al Falah University, which is currently under investigation for alleged terror financing links following the recent Delhi blast.

In his remarks, Madani highlighted how Muslims like Zohran Mamdani can rise to become mayor of New York and Sadiq Khan can lead London, yet in India, they face insurmountable barriers, including imprisonment for those in prominent positions. He specifically pointed to Azam Khan's incarceration and the ongoing probe into Al Falah University's founder, Jawad Siddiqui, who remains in Enforcement Directorate custody amid accusations of money laundering and supporting terror activities tied to suspects in the November 10 blast.

Madani asserted that global perceptions portray Muslims as helpless, but he rejected this notion, accusing the government of deliberately undermining the community to erode its foundations. His statements have amplified concerns over communal tensions, especially as Al Falah emerges as a common thread among arrested terror suspects, prompting intensified scrutiny from investigative agencies.

Congress leader Udit Raj endorsed Madani's views on discrimination, condemning terrorism unequivocally while urging authorities not to unfairly target the university or resort to demolishing Muslim homes. Drawing comparisons to the United States' inclusive policies, Raj called for lawful investigations into any financial irregularities without broader community persecution, and Samajwadi Party's Ghanshyam Tiwari demanded a press conference from the Prime Minister to clarify the government's stance.

The Bharatiya Janata Party mounted a strong counterattack, with leader Mohsin Raza accusing Madani and his family of exploiting Muslims through blame-game politics and misusing grants meant for minority welfare without delivering tangible progress. Fellow BJP Spokesperson Yaser Jilani labeled Madani's comments as confused, emphasizing India's unparalleled hospitality toward Muslims under Hindu-majority leadership and dismissing references to Azam Khan and Al Falah as misguided attempts to sow national discord.
