ISIS Claims Responsibility For Suicide Blast At Shia Mosque In Islamabad
ISIS has claimed responsibility for the suicide bombing at a Shia mosque in Islamabad that killed 31 and injured over 150.
The Islamic State (ISIS) has claimed responsibility for a deadly blast that struck a mosque in Pakistan’s Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province, killing several people and injuring many others, according to security officials. The explosion occurred during prayers, causing panic among worshippers and prompting an immediate emergency response from local authorities.
Police said the blast took place inside the mosque premises, with initial findings suggesting the use of an improvised explosive device. Rescue teams rushed the injured to nearby hospitals, while security forces cordoned off the area to prevent further casualties. Officials said the death toll could rise as some of the wounded remain in critical condition.
In a statement circulated through its propaganda channels, ISIS claimed that one of its operatives carried out the attack, describing it as part of its campaign against what it terms “enemies.” Pakistani authorities are examining the claim and said investigations are underway to verify the group’s involvement and identify any local facilitators.

Senior police officials said forensic teams have been deployed to collect evidence from the site, while intelligence agencies are analyzing CCTV footage and communication records. Authorities have also stepped up security at mosques and other sensitive locations across the province following the attack.
Pakistan has witnessed a resurgence of militant violence in recent years, particularly in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and neighboring areas bordering Afghanistan. While ISIS is smaller in presence compared to other militant groups in the region, it has carried out several high-profile attacks targeting religious gatherings and security personnel.
The federal and provincial governments condemned the attack, calling it an act of terrorism aimed at destabilizing the country and spreading fear. Leaders vowed to bring those responsible to justice and reiterated Pakistan’s commitment to combating extremist violence and ensuring the safety of civilians.
