IRGC Reports Launch of About 40 Missiles at U.S. and Israeli Targets on Day 5
Iran’s Revolutionary Guards launch around 40 missiles at U.S. and Israeli targets as the conflict enters its fifth day.
Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) announced on March 4, 2026, that it launched approximately 40 missiles targeting U.S. and Israeli positions as part of the ongoing conflict in the Middle East, now entering its fifth day.
The missile barrage, described by the IRGC as the 17th wave of "Operation Honest Promise 4," was carried out by its aerospace forces and aimed at what state media referred to as "American and Zionist targets." No specific details on the exact locations struck or immediate casualties from this particular salvo were immediately provided in official Iranian statements. This latest action follows a pattern of retaliatory strikes by Iran in response to coordinated U.S.-Israeli military operations that began on February 28.
The broader conflict escalated dramatically after joint U.S. and Israeli airstrikes, dubbed "Operation Epic Fury" by the U.S. and "Operation Roaring Lion" by Israel, targeted Iranian leadership, military infrastructure, ballistic missile sites, air defenses, and nuclear-related facilities. These initial attacks resulted in the death of Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei and numerous senior officials, prompting Iran to launch hundreds of ballistic missiles and thousands of drones at Israel and U.S. bases across the region, including in Qatar, Kuwait, Bahrain, the UAE, Saudi Arabia, Jordan, and Iraq. Air defense systems in Israel and Gulf states have intercepted many projectiles, though some have caused casualties and damage.

U.S. and Israeli forces have continued intensive strikes into Iran, with reports indicating thousands of targets hit and significant degradation of Iran's missile launch capabilities and naval assets. President Donald Trump has described the campaign as aimed at eliminating threats from Iran's nuclear program, ballistic missiles, and support for proxy groups, projecting it could last four to five weeks or longer if necessary. Meanwhile, Iran has closed the Strait of Hormuz and threatened further escalation, including against vessels attempting passage, heightening concerns over global oil supplies and regional stability.
The conflict has widened beyond Iran, with Israeli strikes extending into Lebanon against Hezbollah positions and reports of Iranian-linked attacks affecting civilian and diplomatic sites in the Gulf. Global markets have reacted sharply, with oil prices surging amid fears of prolonged disruption. As the war progresses, both sides show no immediate signs of de-escalation, raising alarms about potential further involvement of regional and international actors.
This development underscores the volatile nature of the confrontation, now in its fifth day, with ongoing exchanges of fire and mounting humanitarian and economic impacts across the Middle East. Authorities in affected countries continue to urge caution and preparedness as the situation evolves rapidly.
