"Internal Matter": Supriya Sule on Sunetra Pawar-Prashant Kishor Meeting

Nationalist Congress Party (Sharadchandra Pawar) working president Supriya Sule said the rival NCP faction’s decision on whether to engage political strategist Prashant Kishor was an internal matter. Her remarks came after Kishor met NCP chief and Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Sunetra Pawar and her son, parliamentarian Parth Pawar, earlier this week.

Sule, the Member of Parliament from Baramati, said Kishor had been her personal friend for several years and that she had never concealed their association. However, she stressed that he worked independently in his professional capacity and was free to decide which political leaders or organisations he wanted to advise.

“Whether the NCP wants to work with Prashant Kishor or not is their internal matter,” Sule told reporters, responding to speculation surrounding the meeting. Her comments sought to distance her faction from the discussions at a time when political attention remains focused on relations between the two rival groups that emerged from the Nationalist Congress Party.

Sule also praised Kishor’s political work in Bihar, particularly his role in the Bankipur Assembly by-election. She described the result as a major victory achieved despite the organisational strength of the Bharatiya Janata Party. According to Sule, the outcome demonstrated Kishor’s hard work and experience gained from working with several political parties.

Referring to polling data, Sule claimed the BJP had performed poorly even at the booth where its national president, Nitin Nabin, was registered as a voter. She said such a result in a party leader’s own polling area should prompt serious introspection, comparing the situation with what she would have felt had her side suffered a setback in its home territory.

Sule said that if her party had controlled institutions from the local level to the Union government but still registered a negative result at its own booth in Katewadi, Baramati, she would have considered it evidence of a serious problem. Her remarks combined praise for Kishor’s electoral work with the position that his discussions with the rival NCP were outside her faction’s concern.
