India Proactively Tackles West Asia Crisis with Cabinet-Backed Ministerial Panel

India forms ministerial panel under PM Modi to manage West Asia conflict impact on food, energy, and economy.

In response to the escalating conflict in West Asia, the Indian government has formed a high-level ministerial panel to monitor and mitigate the potential impact on the country, Union Minister Pralhad Joshi said on Monday. The move follows an emergency meeting of the Union Cabinet Committee chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday night.

According to a press statement from Joshi, the Prime Minister engaged in detailed discussions with senior ministers and officials on maintaining food security, ensuring supply of essential commodities, and protecting key sectors of the economy. A dedicated team of ministers, including Joshi himself, has been constituted to oversee contingency planning and coordinated response measures.

The Cabinet Committee reviewed global developments and assessed the potential effects of the conflict on critical sectors such as agriculture, fertilizers, petroleum, power, MSMEs, exports, transport, trade, and finance. Discussions focused on identifying challenges and implementing mitigation strategies to safeguard public interest. Special attention was paid to the upcoming kharif season, fertilizer availability, and alternative sourcing options to prevent supply disruptions.

Food security emerged as a central priority, with the Prime Minister emphasizing timely availability of food grains and essential items. Measures to prevent artificial shortages and hoarding were also discussed, alongside coordination with state governments to ensure swift interventions wherever needed.

On energy, the Prime Minister expressed confidence in India’s power supply, citing adequate coal reserves and increased generation from renewable sources including solar and wind. He also stressed diversification of import sources in chemicals, pharmaceuticals, and petrochemicals, while encouraging exploration of new export markets to strengthen India’s global trade position.

To ensure a unified response, Modi directed the formation of dedicated teams of ministers and departmental secretaries focused on national security, defence preparedness, essential commodities, and food supply. “All departments must remain vigilant and proactive in safeguarding the interests of citizens,” Joshi quoted the Prime Minister, underscoring India’s commitment to minimizing the conflict’s domestic impact.
